May 2023 Beauty Executives Making Major Moves

The beauty industry witnesses some major moves happening in the C-suite. Beautycounter has another executive shuffle and is on the hunt for a new CEO again, John Demsey is back in the beauty mix after being asked to resign from Estée Lauder last year, and Sharon Chuter steps down at Uoma Beauty.Marc Rey, along with the board, has decided to transition the brand “to a new phase of leadership for Beautycounter." Rey assumed the CEO role in February 2022 when founder Gregg Renfrew stepped down. Beautycounter’s Board Director Mindy Mackenzie has been appointed interim Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. The board will conduct a search to find a permanent CEO.Roberto Marques, former Executive Chair & Group CEO of direct-to-consumer sustainable brand Natura &Co, is joining Beautycounter's Board of Directors as Chair. He will work with the Board in support of the executive leadership team to build on the company's mission and drive sustainable and profitable growth. Beautycounter appointed Nicole Malozi as Chief Financial Officer. She comes to the business with significant executive finance experience at leading consumer brands, including Tatcha, Nike, and DFS Group Limited.John Demsey joins L Catterton as Senior Advisor. While no official announcement was made regarding the appointment, Dempsey is listed on the firm's website as a senior advisor. Demsey was most recently an Executive Group President at Estée Lauder, overseeing MAC, Estée Lauder, Tom Ford Beauty, and Clinique.Sharon Chuter has stepped down as CEO and relinquished her board seat at Uoma Beauty, the brand she founded in 2019.
